The Ethel Walker School has an opening for a full-time Spanish Teacher beginning in August 2021. The successful candidate will have native or near fluency in Spanish. Candidates must be comfortable or willing to learn how to integrate new technology into the classroom. Experience teaching with Comprehensible Input is preferred.
A highly developed sense of collaboration and a willingness to work with colleagues is required for this position; you will work closely with colleagues to make sure the School’s mission and goals are being met and you will have a large amount of autonomy in planning lessons and developing units and assessments. The successful candidate will show an empathy for and a willingness to work with adolescent girls at this phase in their development.
Fluency or near fluency in Spanish is required.
Experience teaching Spanish at the middle and/or high school level
Ability to create a culturally-responsive classroom environment
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Facility with the use of technology (preferable Apple and iPad) in learning techniques
A strong sense of community involvement and collegiality
Strong work ethic (timely adherence to deadlines and ability to self-motivate)
Attend and participate in faculty and department meetings
Collaborate with colleagues on lesson planning and curriculum development
Maintain active communication with students and their parents regarding academic progress
Assist and collaborate in the guidance of problem solving for students
Meet departmental deadlines and goals
Serve as an academic advisor to students
Attend required community events including but not limited to evening banquets, concerts and community dinners
Participate in assigned weekend team duties
Coach or direct two seasons of a co-curricular
Obtain a Public Passenger Endorsement for your driver’s license to drive students to off-campus activities and/or athletic events
Exhibit a high degree of flexibility and adaptability
Participate in personal and professional development
Carry out other duties as assigned
