Professional Opportunity: Middle School / Upper School Spanish Teacher
Saint George’s School seeks a Middle School / Upper School Spanish teacher for the 2021-22 school year beginning July 1, 2021. The classes to be taught may include Spanish 1 – 4 and International Baccalaureate (IB) classes. Successful candidates will: have a demonstrated expertise in their discipline; love working with adolescents and their parents; have a strong understanding of pedagogy, a desire to collaborate closely with colleagues, and an interest in encouraging cross-curricular connections. Teachers at Saint George’s model life-long learning. This position will be a 1.0 FTE regular faculty appointment.
Responsibilities: •Teach students in grades 8-12 •Prepare and facilitate multiple levels of Spanish language courses •Collaborate with other teachers in the department to create a strong K-12 language program •Develop mentoring relationships with students •Provide a class experience that matches the school culture of developing each student’s talents •Provide feedback to students and families in a timely manner •Attend weekly and monthly staff meetings •Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications required: •Bachelor’s degree •Strong Spanish language proficiency (native speaker or near native) • Enthusiasm for teaching pre- and adolescent students • Travel and experience in a country that speaks Spanish is preferred • Able to teach introductory and intermediate Spanish courses, including IB Spanish courses • Able to communicate effectively with colleagues, students, parents, Administration, and member of the SGS community • Flexible, creative, and enthusiastic • Good sense of humor
Qualifications preferred: • Previous teaching experience • Valid Washington state teaching certificate (or certification from another state) • Bachelor’s degree (in Spanish preferred) • International Baccalaureate teaching experience
Salary/Benefits: Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with training and experience.
