Position Available: Blair Academy announces an opening for a crew coach/English teacher
The strongest applicants will have the following qualifications:
A degree in English
Experience rowing crew
Previous teaching experience
A strong commitment to collaborating with colleagues to create curricular materials such as lesson plans, formative and summative assessments
Strong organizational skills, confidence and have a passion for both crew and English
Typical job responsibilities include:
Preparing and delivering engaging English lessons to students from different backgrounds, who all have different interests and abilities.
Monitoring student performance, and adjusting teaching strategies and techniques for improved content delivery and skill development.
Setting up exams, assessments, and activities in accordance with curriculum requirements.
Communicating any student issues to advisors, monitors, dorm heads and other relevant staff members.
Attending school events, club meetings, and staff meetings as required.
Coming up with suggestions to improve the English curriculum and departmental operations.
Building rapport with students so that they feel comfortable and safe discussing sensitive topics in class.
Understanding and implementing Blair’s Five foundational principles.
Teaching a total of four courses with two to three class preparations.
Coaching crew for two seasons.
Advising a group of six to eight students.
Providing weekly supervision for boarding students.
