Ridgefield Academy is seeking an Assistant Teacher for the 4’s classroom at our Ridegfield, CT campus. The Assistant Teacher reports directly to the Head Teacher with oversight by the Division Head/Director. The Assistant Teacher will implement the planned activities and lesson plans for the academic year using the framework of the curriculum for the grade level and subject matter. The Assistant Teacher must be able to effectively support the head teacher as well as teach students through a variety of methods and using positive encouragement supporting the mission of the school and the curriculum. The Assistant Teacher generally will substitute for the Head Teacher in their absence.
Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
Assist the classroom teacher by implementing the planned activities and lesson plans that support the children’s age-appropriate development
Assist the classroom teacher by preparing activities that support the lesson plans
Consistently utilize appropriate language, interactions, and positive discipline and models positive behavior
Actively participate in large and small group activities, leading activities as appropriate.
Provide assistance and support during specials
Supervise children appropriately, including monitoring children during indoor and outdoor recess.
Participate in professional development programs and engages in continuing education.
Maintain confidentiality of students and families and directs parent questions about students to the head teacher
Additional responsibilities, as required
Perform duties including student support during lunch and rest time and arrival and dismissal

Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in education preferred
Minimum of two years experience
