We have two part-time positions available to begin in mid-August 2021 in the following areas. These positions could be combined into one full-time position for the right candidate.
Sixth Grade Language Arts (Part-Time)
Green Acres seeks a part-time experienced middle school language arts teacher. The sixth grade language arts program helps students to grow as readers, writers, and thinkers by engaging them in the reading of novels (like Taste of Salt and The Giver), poetry, and short stories, and by having them write both creatively and analytically. Students currently engage in projects where they develop a website about an accomplished person of color, design a dystopian society, write excerpts of a novel in verse, and craft persuasive essays. Middle school classes cultivate skills through collaboration, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving. Our teachers are able to use best practices in classroom management while also building strong relationships with individual students. The expectation for professional collaboration is high in order to coordinate efforts as a teaching team, to serve students best, and to build integrated cross-curricular projects.
Middle School Learning Support Teacher (Part-Time)
Green Acres School is seeking a part-time Learning Support Teacher for the Middle School (grades 5-8). The successful candidate will enjoy working with children, teachers, and families and will view teaching and learning through a progressive education lens. As a progressive school, Green Acres highly values “learning by doing” and collaborative, project-based work.
The requirements and responsibilities of the position include:
Interpreting and analyzing psycho-educational testing and sharing this information with teachers and staff to identify the best way to support students; taking this information to build and generate student learning plan and sharing this with the teacher and families
Leading and participating in parent meetings where information regarding evaluations, learning plans, and outside supports is discussed
Ensuring students are receiving appropriate classroom accommodations and identifying and addressing student academic concerns through problem solving
Collaborating with outside professionals (SLP, OT, tutors) and helping to carry over their goals into the classroom, and managing information between outside professionals and teaching staff, such as testing forms, recommendations, and progress notes
Participating in weekly grade level meetings
Supporting students with testing accommodations for the ERBs and National Spanish Exam
Working with Middle School teachers to integrate executive functioning skills into the classroom; providing support during HELP and Advisory times
Leading a resource class for Middle School students
Running after school Homework Club for Middle School
The successful candidate will have a degree with a focus on special education or a related field and/or previous experience in the position. The successful candidate will have experience working with 5th through 8th grade students and will enjoy tweens and pre-adolescents. Finally, the successful candidate will be an effective communicator with parents, students, and staff.
As mentioned previously, these two positions (Learning Support and Language Arts) could be combined into one full-time position for the right candidate.
