The Department of Romance and Classical Studies at Michigan State University is seeking an academic specialist of Spanish with expertise in the cultural production related to the narco-trafficking in Mexico and along the US-Mexican border. This is a fixed-term, nine-month, academic year position beginning August 16, 2021. The position is not renewable. PhD holders or Masters/ABDs in the final stages of completing a doctoral dissertation will be considered. In the latter case, the PhD must be completed by the end of the Fall 2021 semester. All degrees must be confirmed by degree-granting institutions at the time of hire. The successful candidate will engage in an active program of teaching, including three courses per academic year in the Spanish Program and/or teaching in the College of Arts and Letters' general education program in the Interdisciplinary Arts and Humanities. They will also conduct productive research in their area of expertise; related projects in the Digital Humanities are especially encouraged. The person will also develop a residential immersive language program for the summer and the academic year. They will work closely with local school districts on outreach initiatives.

Masters -Spanish or related field
Masters in Spanish or related.
Expertise in drug trafficking and urban violence in the Mexican context, especially narcocorridos.
Native/near-native proficiency in Spanish and English.
Clear commitment and history of working on and implementing DEI initiatives.
Experience developing language immersion and education programs at a land-grant university.
Interest in working on a Digital Humanities project on corridos desired.
