Bayhill High School is a small high school in Berkeley, CA serving students with learning differences. Bayhill students have average to above average intelligence, but struggle to learn due to a learning difference such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, or ADHD. Our small class size and dynamic approach allow students to achieve to their full potential and succeed in high school, college and beyond.
We are seeking a creative, innovative and compassionate individual to teach Algebra 1 and Algebra 2/Trig. The right candidate will use visual, auditory and kinesthetic modalities to instruct students. You will be curious about students' learning styles, and seek to build trusting relationships in order to individualize lessons.
Prepare high quality lesson plans and activities in line with the California Common Core Standards and State grade level curricular requirements, and according to the needs of students.
Demonstrate knowledge of effective instructional techniques by using a wide variety of materials & mediums of delivery avoiding overuse of any one medium.
Demonstrate knowledge of each student’s learning profile by reviewing assessment data to obtain each student’s history, issues, and disabilities.
Responsible to assist in developing, implementing, and reporting on individualized education goals appropriate to subject matter taught and assigned by IEP case manager by attending treatment planning meetings, providing current, specific data; by developing and employing strategies & interventions; by monitoring & evaluating student progress; by sharing information.
Manage the classroom to maintain a safe, secure, and effective learning environment by providing a high degree of structure, clear expectations, and consistency.
Maintain a firm, fair, and consistent approach to the instruction of students and promote student involvement by reinforcing positive behaviors.
Ensure the rights of students are observed and protected through the use of appropriate respectful communication with fairness and equity.
Project a positive role model image for students and colleagues by participating as a team member, cooperating with staff, demonstrating compromise and appropriate expression of opinions; by attending staff meetings as required; by actively participating in all other school related activities/functions, to include clubs, extracurricular activities, and school events (school picnic, Back to School Night, Open House, etc.)
Utilize chain-of-command in all aspects of program and follows Staff Procedures and Expectations Manual.
Maintain appropriate relationships with the students by treating students in a respectful manner at all times, by eliciting students interest cooperation, and by maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Maintain confidentiality of all student records per program guidelines.
Responsible to communicate and cooperate with families, relevant external personnel, and staff members, ensuring all communication of information - written or verbal - is clear, concise, legible, accurate, and courteous.
Participate in Parent Teacher Conferences.
Provide timely, accurate, and professional documentation by recording grades/points, progress notes, progress reports, benchmarks, and report cards. Maintain Jupiter Grades on a weekly basis.
Assure the classroom physical environment is conducive to learning by maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the classroom work areas, including but not limited to desk, shelves, and storage areas.
Participate in WASC accreditation process in conjunction with other faculty and as assigned by the Executive Director.
Complete specialized trainings necessary for NPS compliance or the general safety and security of students and Bayhill High School.
Follow the expectations outlined in the Employee Handbook and the Staff Procedures & Expectations Manual.
Teaching credential or intern teacher.
Candidates with experience in teaching math and interested in pursuing a credential will also be considered.
Bayhill will be 100% in person. No remote instruction.

A small high school in Berkeley, CA, Bayhill provides a WASC accredited program, A-G approved course work to students with dyslexia, ADHD, high funtioning Autism, and other learning differences. Our neurodiverse student body has average to above average intelligence, but struggle to learn in a large high school due to learning differences. Many of our students have strengths in the arts or sciences.
