Abraham Joshua Heschel School is currently seeking an Assistant Controller to join the Business Office team.

In addition to maintaining the school's general ledger, monthly closings, and financial reporting, other duties include, but are not limited to:
Working with the Chief Financial Officer and the Comptroller in establishing, documenting and maintaining best practices and policies for the business office and the school.
Generating and distributing budget reports and financial statements. Providing meaningful budget analysis to report budget issues and/or budget variances to the Chief Financial Officer and Comptroller.
Working with the Chief Financial Officer, Head of School, and other school leaders to provide helpful advice, meaningful analysis, and provide alternative solutions in resolving budget and cost issues.
Supporting the School’s government and non-government grant programs.
Preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and account analyses.
Working with the Comptroller to prepare appropriate analyses and providing support in the completion of the annual audit process.
Additional projects as determined by the Chief Financial Officer and Comptroller.
Qualifications Qualified candidates will have strong communication skills, as well as strong technical skills in areas related to accounting, general ledger maintenance and financial reporting, and GAAP. This position reports directly to the Comptroller. The position requires:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other relevant field required, Master’s degree preferred.
At least 3 years of related (not-for-profit or public accounting) experience, CPA a plus.
Knowledge of accounting-related functions (A/P, P/R and A/R).
High proficiency working with MacBooks, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word), and possess the ability to work well in an automated environment.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with a wide range of individuals within a school environment, including faculty, staff, and school leadership.
High level of organization skills with an attention to detail and deadlines.
Ability to think logically, make decisions, and solve problems; must be able to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.
