To provide leadership for the high quality educational programs and to supervise those assistant teachers assigned to you; to encourage, motivate and supervise staffing the implementation of a developmentally appropriate program; to provide high quality environments and curriculum for those students in your care ensuring opportunities for social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth through a balance of activities and experiences which are developmentally appropriate and foster independence; to maintain effective relationships and open communication with parents and with other staff members; and to ensure the safety of students and staff assigned to your classroom.
Master’s degree in Special Education.
Two years teaching experience in a special education preschool or elementary school, preferred, not required.
Able to seek supervision and use it constructively. Tact, discretion, confidentiality and common sense.
Able to work independently. Self-motivated.
Knowledge of students’ physical, social, emotional and cognitive developmental patterns and developmentally appropriate practice.
Sufficient maturity and good judgment to function in a crisis situation.
